Trailblazing women golfers honoured at second edition of ‘Sip Over’

    August 18, 2024

Caroline Ampire, the Media Manager at Uganda Breweries Limited, expressed her enthusiasm for the “She Walks” program, saying, “This programme resonates deeply with me because it’s about progress, breaking boundaries, and celebrating women who, like Johnnie Walker, continue to take bold steps forward. Tonight, we honoured the incredible women in golf, learned from their journeys, and, of course, enjoyed the finest that Johnnie Walker has to offer.”

The evening, hosted by Wendy Angudeyo, the Lady Captain of Uganda Golf Club, was a delightful mix of celebration, whisky mentorship, and education. Female golfers were treated to a sumptuous dinner, whisky mentoring sessions, and an exquisite food pairing experience. Guests indulged in the rich experience of Johnnie Walker whisky, exploring its unique variants and learning the best ways to enjoy them.

With the gifting season approaching, attendees took advantage of Johnnie Walker’s special offerings, including free customization and personalization of every iconic Johnnie Walker bottle purchased, with personalised messages and names for their loved ones. The event’s theme centred on resilience.

Keynote speaker Doreen Mwesigye, President of the Uganda Ladies Golf Union, captivated the audience with her inspiring analogy between life and golf, highlighting life’s relentless challenges compared to the ups and downs on the golf course. “A bad hole should never stop you from rising above defeat and disappointment. In golf, as in life, you should always keep walking towards your dreams,” she shared.

Doreen also recounted her entrepreneurial journey, sharing stories of resilience, such as her well-known bus business failure, which instead of deterring her, propelled her to establish a thriving empire of four businesses.

The event brought together an impressive group of women, including former Presidents of the Uganda Ladies Golf Union, Eva Magara and Ann Abeka, Uganda’s first female Professional Golfer and National Team coach, Flavia Namakula, and the Lady Captain of Mary Louis Club Namulonge, Charity Atuhaire, among others.

As Johnnie Walker gears up for the 2024 Uganda Golf Open, set to begin in a few days, this edition of Sip Over was timely. It was an evening filled with powerful conversations, shared successes, a renewed commitment to progress, and whisky learning through the immersive Johnnie Walker mentorship.

With the success of this second edition, the Sip Over series is quickly becoming a movement of empowerment, creating a community where women can support each other and boldly walk towards their goals. The evening concluded with a toast to the future—one filled with progress, mentorship, and, as always, a good sip of Johnnie Walker.
