    Bygones: Duluth councilors sold bonds for Super One store in 1984 – Duluth News Tribune

    The introduction of daily reading of the Bible in Duluth public schools is illegal, according to George Spear, school board attorney. At a September meeting of the board, Director C.G. Firoved introduced a resolution mandating daily Bible reading in schools.

    No inquest will be held in the death of former Duluth resident and prominent businessman Chauncey W. Griggs, who was fatally shot on a hunting trip in Canada with three Duluthians. Police said Griggs was struck by a shotgun blast when Homer Collins, president of the Duluth-Superior Transit Co. and Homer Collins & Co., slipped in a hole.

    Duluth city councilors agreed to sell $3.5 million in bonds to loan James Miner the money he needs to build a Super One grocery store at 2130 Miller Trunk Highway. Miner owns 11 stores in northern Minnesota and will begin building the new one immediately.

    Duluth Clinic Lakeside has outgrown its home at 4621 E. Superior St., and planners are carefully monitoring the selection of a bigger site to ensure it’s what’s best for the neighborhood and the health care provider.
