LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) – Webb County officials continue to keep a close eye on the 1848 project.
Commissioners recently spoke about managing funds to start phase 3 of this project, which consists of the construction of a barn and a new exhibit hall.
However, commissioners say the costs of phase two, which consists of the construction of two showrooms and a large area for lassoing, need to be reviewed.
County Commissioner for Precinct 3, John Galo, noted, “We found out we needed a venue a little bit bigger because there are some events that need more space, and we also need some smaller venues. We decided to ask the architects to do some conceptual drawings for that. We’re calling that Phase 3. Phase 2 is, as you heard today, we should have some numbers by next week, and I was just being cautious by saying to hold off from Phase 3. We want to do it but I want to get the numbers done for Phase 2 to be able to get that started this year.”
The project is expected to be fully completed by 2027.
