8th annual ‘Fuel the Fight’ in Minot raises funds to ease the costs of patients battling cancer

    September 6, 2025

MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) – Behind every mile cancer patients travel for treatment is a heavy cost, one that can add up quickly.

In Minot, the Fuel the Fight event is giving those patients a lift, raising funds to ease the burden and remind them they’re not alone in the journey.

People who fueled their vehicles at the Dakota Square Arco gas station on Saturday not only had the chance to win free gas for a year, but they also donated to the cause.

The event featured a helicopter landing, a dunk tank, free food, and a chance for families to experience riding in emergency response vehicles.

Owner Lori Wonnenberg has partnered with Trinity Health for the last eight years.

For nearly a decade, she said they’ve helped at least 200,000 patients with vouchers to pay for their travel expenses when getting treatment for cancer.

“For the patients who get the vouchers, I get to see them in here. Sometimes hear their stories, and it’s just a little tiny help for what they’re going through,” said Wonnenberg.

Wonnenberg said she’s heard of some patients who travel 80 miles one-way, five days a week just for treatment.

Last year they raised $85,000, and organizers hope to meet the $100,000 mark this year.
