FIDO raising funds to buy equipment to find lost dogs

    April 15, 2026

Finding Ipswich Dogs Organisation (FIDO) is a voluntary group set up to track down lost dogs across the town and county led by founder Sam French.

However, the demand for the service has grown exponentially since its foundation and now the group are raising funds to be able to purchase vital equipment to find lost dogs.

Ms French said: “We’ve rescued and returned hundreds of dogs in the time we’ve been running and theses funds would mean we can carry out this work for more people.

“Our community has been great in donating to us to keep us going but now we need more to extend our work.”

FIDO was set up by Ms French in June 2022 and went on to grab national headlines after they helped reunite Woodbridge woman Codie Hutton with her spaniel.

In November 2022, Miss Hutton opened the car door to put Maisie on the lead when a firework went off across the road and the spaniel bolted.

Three days letter, the family buried a flattened body they believed to be Maisie’s, wrapped in her bed with her toys.

However, five days later and a sighting of Maisie was made leading to FIDO helping to reunite the pair.

FIDO – now a team of 12 volunteers with more than 5,000 members online – are spread from Manningtree to Felixstowe to Bury St Edmunds.

Funding would allow new equipment to be installed in Woodbridge making it easier for the team to locate lost dogs in the area.

It would also go towards replacing old equipment used in Ipswich that no longer works, preventing the team from working effectively in the town.
