“The jackpot winners aren’t the only ones celebrating. This month, ERNIE drew more than six million tax-free prizes worth over £410million. To find out if you’re stepping into spring as a Premium Bonds winner, you can check on our NS&I prize checker app from Tuesday 3 March.”
This month’s draw will see a total of £410,607,175 paid to Premium Bonds prize draw winners totalling 6,221,321 in tax-free prizes. It brings the grand total of prizes since the first draw in June 1957 to 821 million and the total value to over £40.3billion.
If you weren’t either of the £1million winners, then you could be among the lucky 78 Bond holders who won £100,000 in this month’s draw. The same draw also produced 156 prizes of £50,000 each, 313 of £25,000 each, and 782 of £10,000 a go. At the other end of the scale, there were just under 2.7 million Bond holders who got £25 each.
Premium Bonds originally went on sale in November 1956. The first prize draw by ERNIE was held in June 1957. Individuals can hold up to £50,000 in Premium Bonds. They offer the security of being backed by the UK Treasury and, as well potentially winning tax-free prizes.
Newly purchased Premium Bonds need to be held for one full calendar month after purchase before being eligible for the prize draw.
