Shelby Co. judge raises bond for inmates deemed threat to society who requested decrease

    August 10, 2024

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Two men accused of several felonies appeared in Shelby County Court for a bail hearing on Thursday, during which they asked for a decrease to their $100,000 bonds.

According to the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office, the state argued that the suspects were a threat to public safety, so the judge instead doubled one suspect’s bond and increased the other’s by 25%.

Court records show that Octavious Jenkins, 33, and Lorenzo Buckley, 31, both of Memphis, have lengthy histories of felony charges.

Their hearing Thursday stems from a robbery in which they allegedly held the victims hostage at a Memphis hotel room.

The Memphis Police Department was called to the Hotel Elite at 5225 Summer Avenue on Saturday, July 27, after a pair of teenage girls reportedly lured two men inside a hotel room for a “party.”

The pair was instead met by three men at gunpoint who demanded their belongings.

The victims told police that the robbers then assaulted them and tried to make them strip nude.

They claimed the teenage girls stood by and filmed the crime on their phones.

After giving up their belongings, the victims were kicked out of the room.

But as they were leaving, Jenkins allegedly caught up with them and forced one victim to surrender his phone and give him the password at gunpoint.

The man complied, then both victims fled. They lost their phones, sneakers, and an Apple watch, according to the arrest affidavit.

Jenkins and Buckley were arrested four days later and charged with aggravated robbery and kidnapping.

On Thursday, they requested a decrease to their $100,000 bonds issued for this case. They also have bonds set on other pending theft cases.

One such case stemmed from an incident that took place three days after the alleged kidnapping, where they reportedly attempted to run over a Memphis police officer during a shoplifting getaway.

Jenkins’ bond was raised to $250,000, while Buckley’s was increased to $125,000.

Jenkins is being held on a cumulative $341,000 bond. Buckley is being held on a cumulative $152,000.

Both suspects are due in court again next Thursday.
