LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – It was a race for the finish line Saturday at the Lansing Board of Water and Light (BWL) headquarters in Lansing’s REO Town.
The Lansing-area utility company hosted its annual Hometown Power 5k race. The 3.1-mile racetrack began at the BWL headquarters and ran through streets in the surrounding neighborhood.
BWL said the race is its way of giving back to the community, helping raise money for the Karmanos Cancer Institute at McLaren Greater Lansing, through the McLaren Greater Lansing Foundation.
“We give back to the McLaren Health Care Foundation to help students get their fall physical so that they can get out and prepare,” said BWL Director of Government and Community Relations Calvin Jones. “And sports do great, great work academically, and just half fun.”
Jones added that 300 people signed up for this year’s race.
