Minister for European Funds Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi and CEO of Services Européens Malta (SEM) Rodrick Zerafa visited FNG Supplies Co. Ltd in Rabat to show how European funding is helping local businesses expand, modernise, and adopt sustainable practices.
The company, one of Malta’s leading importers of fruit and vegetables serving restaurants, hotels, and other food establishments, benefited from approximately €100,000 in European funds through the Business Enhance scheme.
With this support, FNG Supplies invested around €200,000 to move its operations from Wardija to a larger facility in Rabat.
The investment included a new cold room, electric lifters and stackers, and improvements to warehouse infrastructure to protect product quality and enhance operational efficiency.
Zrinzo Azzopardi praised the company’s efforts, saying that this project demonstrates how European funds help Maltese businesses expand and innovate.
“This is an investment not only in the business, but also in its employees and the wider Maltese business community,” he said.
Zrinzo Azzopardi said that government will continue to strengthen these schemes so that more Maltese enterprises can invest in technology, energy efficiency, and modernisation of their operations.
SEM CEO Zerafa said it was very satisfying for SEM to see such investments being made with European funds by businesses of all types.
“These investments show that, with our support and the commitment of enterprise owners, European funds are being transformed into modern, sustainable practices that benefit consumers,” Zerafa said.
The visit showed how the European Union is supporting small and medium-sized enterprises in Malta, providing financing for investments that foster expansion, diversification, and innovation in their operations, the statement said.
