Milan funds reach almost 200m with Okafor sale to Leeds United

    August 19, 2025

With Noah Okafor set to join Leeds United for €21m including add-ons, meaning Milan will have raised almost €200m from sales this summer, but were they all good deals?

An agreement was struck today for the sale of Okafor, who has reportedly been given permission to fly out to England today for his medical tests.

Considering the Switzerland international was purchased from RB Salzburg in 2023 for €15.5m and already brought in an extra €1.5m from his six-month loan at Napoli last season, this is a very healthy profit for a player who was not part of their plans.

Overall, new director of sport Igli Tare has earned praise for his ability to sell Milan outcasts, something that the club had struggled with in recent years.

This included pocketing €3.5m for Marco Pellegrino to Boca Juniors, €25m for Theo Hernandez to Al-Hilal when down to the final year of his contract, Emerson Royal to Flamengo for €9m plus €1m add-ons and Tommaso Pobega to Bologna for a total of €8m.

Malick Thiaw was a big sale at €35m plus €5m in add-ons to Newcastle United, almost double the fee that had previously been agreed with Como of €25m when the defender turned it down.

However, not all those transfers received the thumbs up from the Milan supporters, as a few deals raised some eyebrows.

Tijjani Reijnders contributed a goal and an assist on his Premier League debut for Manchester City, confirming the belief he was worth considerably more than the €57m plus €15m in add-ons price that was paid.

Other agreements seemed short-sighted, like releasing Devis Vasquez as a free agent to join Roma, with Mattia Liberali moving to Catanzaro for a nominal fee with 50 per cent of the future sale going to the Rossoneri.

A similar agreement was reached with Aberdeen for Marko Lazetic after a series of loan experiences.
