Myrtle Beach gala raises funds for wounded warriors with special auction

    October 12, 2024

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WPDE) — The Special Operations Wounded Warriors Foundation spoke to all injured in the line of duty, by hosting a charity event to raise money for programs.

Tables were filled with patriotic pictures, visuals, and symbols honoring those who have served the United States.

The foundation was founded in Myrtle Beach and a dinner and gala was hosted on Frida night to raise funds to support the mission of their organization.

Much of their mission involves therapeutic retreats to a select group of both active duty and veteran U.S. military special operations forces, whose wounds are both seen and unseen.

According to auctioneer, Jason Bronis, many of these items have great value, and not just monetarily.

I think we have definitely hit on that with this auction, there’s some really great items in this auction, donated items, and the proceeds of which will 100% go to a great cause,” said Bronis.

Guns, knives, and paintings depicted brotherhood and were also placed in the silent auction.

Some guns came with their own experience for those who won the bid, including a training class with a retired special forces operations veteran.

There’s some weapons that have some historical significance, and some packages that we are auctioning off that not only includes the weapon, but also includes some kind of experience component,” said Bronis.

The guest speaker for this event was Dr. David King, who is an Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School, as well as a colonel in the U.S. Army.

Veterans by in large, suffer in silence, and that’s a shame,” said King.

He shared that many warriors do not ask for help, and as a veteran, he knows how difficult that can be.

Even just flying here, I saw a guy with a Korean war veteran hat on. So, I sat down with that guy for minute and just chatted him up because you don’t know what’s going on in people’s lives,” said King.

With a resume of performing open heart surgery on a ranger in a helicopter, and serving his country, Dr. King reflected on a quality of life he wanted all to strive for.

I’m gonna be talking about leadership, opportunities for leadership in every day life, and you don’t have to wear a uniform to be a good and effective leader,” said King.

The money raised for the foundation will be used for countless amounts of programs, including unique outdoor programs for those who were injured in the line of duty, as well as K9 activities.
