Friday afternoon, the City of Cheyenne, Wyoming – Government received a $33,000 donation from Horse Palace Swan Ranch which will be used to fund three new K9s for the Cheyenne Police Department.
A check was presented to Mayor Collins at the Public Safety Center with three K9 teams in attendance.
This donation comes at a critical time as three of the unit’s current K9s— Tyler, Maverick, and Pavel—are approaching retirement age.
Once a dog retires, it is adopted by its handler, becoming a permanent member of the handler’s family.
The K9 Unit is currently comprised of four dual-purpose K9s (Tyler, Pavel, Maverick, and Dutch).
Dual-purpose dogs are used for both odor detection (illicit narcotics, tracking, article searches) and suspect apprehension.
