    MAPPED: A guide to natural wine in Prague – 15 spots to sip

    Natural wine—made with minimal intervention, wild yeasts, and little to no additives—has moved from niche curiosity to mainstay in Prague’s evolving wine scene. Sought out for its transparency, unpredictability, and sense of place, it’s increasingly poured in bars, bistros, and tucked-away cellars across the city. Whether you prefer skin-contact whites, pét-nats, or something Slovenian you’ve never heard of, Prague has a glass waiting. We asked the experts at Ambiente where we can grab some of the best natural pours in the capital.  

    Vin de Marie

    This understated shop and tasting bar is one of Old Town’s most well-regarded hideouts for natural wine enthusiasts, offering a carefully curated mix of Central European blends, alongside bottles from France, Italy, and Georgia. Once a month, you can join a blind-tasting of young and mature glasses chosen by its sommeliers. From 6 p.m., the spot transforms into a dining space for Marie B, a concept restaurant from the creators of Michelin‑starred La Degustation Bohême Bourgeoise. 

    The Sip

    A recent addition to Vinohrady’s drinking scene, The Sip is an intimate venue deeply committed to natural wine. It highlights bottles from female winemakers and under-the-radar Czech producers, many of whom wine fans can interact with at its “meet the winemaker” evenings. This eclectic, evolving series feels more like friendly conversations than formal tastings. It’s the kind of spot where curiosity is welcomed, and the pour often comes with the story behind it. 

    Kuchyň na Hradě

    Perched just behind Prague Castle, Kuchyň isn’t your typical wine stop. The new head sommelier Lukáš Mohorko has quietly reshaped the list, leaning into low-intervention wines that nicely complement the kitchen’s traditional Czech fare. The selection includes local whites and reds with more edge than you’d expect this close to the tourist circuit. The focus is on expressive bottles that hold their own alongside roast meats, root vegetables, and stunning river views.

    Veltlin

    In the heart of Karlín, Veltlin takes a stripped-back approach: no printed wine list, no fuss, just whatever’s open and drinking well that day. The focus is tight: natural wines from Central Europe, mostly from regions once under the Habsburg crown. Staff are trained to guide, not upsell, and the food mirrors the origins of what’s in your glass: local cheeses, pâtés, and thoughtfully sourced regional bites.

    Čestr

    This contemporary Czech steakhouse in Vinohrady may draw crowds for its dry-aged beef, but the varied wine list is full of personality and worth its own visit. The house cuvée comes from Vojtěch Bystřický, a rising star in Moravian natural wine circles. Look out for Slovak picks from Pivnica Brhlovce and expressive Pinot Noir by the Springer family, whose Bořetice winery dates back to 1807 – both refreshing picks and unexpectedly elegant alongside Čestr’s heartier plates. 

    Winegeek

    Are artsy, off-the-beaten-path spots your jam? Then you’ll definitely want to duck into this little Holešovice nook. Every pour comes with a story related to what you’re drinking, like the journey of a specific bottle to its location from across Europe, or how the music pairs nicely with your chosen sip. With just a handful of seats, Winegeek feels like a cozy rendezvous steeped in natural wine enthusiasm. Behind a low-slung counter, the staff – true natural wine insiders – are ready to guide you through a rotating mix of organic and additive‑free wines from Spain to Moravia and many points in between. 

    Enoteca

    Head to Karlín, where this wine bar keeps its shelves focused on Italian blends. The selection here is a well-curated mix of low-intervention wines from across Italy, with some veering into the wild and funky, others clean and classic. The mood is unhurried, with knowledgeable staff who won’t bat an eye if you’re still figuring out what you’d like. It’s a low-key spot for drinkers curious about the edges of natural wine without diving in headfirst. If you’re hungry, hit up their new location on Jiřího z Poděbrad square, which combines Mediterranean classics with their wine list. 

    Autentista

    Set inside a vaulted 14th-century house, Autentista is quiet, candlelit, and serious about its wine. The focus here is on low-intervention bottles from across Europe, with a strong showing from Czech and Slovak Autentisté winemakers. You’ll find grower champagnes, crisp Moravian whites, and deep reds from volcanic soils, all served with cheeses and small plates that match the mood. It’s one of the few Old Town spots that doesn’t feel built for tourists.

    Fajnšmekr

    Tucked into a quiet area near Vršovice’s hip and lively Krymská Street, this laid-back dining spot pairs Central European comfort food with a sharp, rotating list of natural wines. You’ll find mainly Czech and Austrian labels from winemakers who avoid additives and shortcuts. Inside, it’s warm and unpretentious; outside, a leafy courtyard keeps things relaxed through summer. The staff knows their producers, and the wine list reads like a map of the region’s evolving low-intervention scene.

    Vila 63

    Originally launched as a garden cafe by the team behind Café Jen last summer, Vila 63 has evolved into a full natural wine hotspot tucked into a lovingly restored First Republic villa. Chris, the resident sommelier, curates a list of expressive, low-intervention bottles with help from Kristýna, and their Cool Wines Club tastings offer a welcoming, low-key intro to the producers behind them. Pop in and relax in their expansive outdoor area if you’re near the border of Vinohrady and Vršovice. 

    Vinárna By Alma

    The foodie-famous Alma bistro, near Karlovo náměstí, is also home to Vinárna by Alma, which offers a separate, moody, brick-lined space for lingering over a glass. The focus is on low-intervention wines from small international and local producers, with a list that shifts frequently. It’s a natural next stop after dinner onsite or nearby, and just as good as a late-evening destination (complete with DJ sets), especially if you’re after something unfussy but carefully chosen.

    Krámek 28

    Straddling the edge of Žižkov and Vinohrady, this compact corner shop punches above its size with a tight, thoughtful selection of natural wines from Central Europe and beyond. Krámek 28 doubles as a neighborhood hub, hosting tastings, casual meetups, and the occasional community dinner. Whether you’re picking up a bottle or sticking around for a chat, it’s the kind of place that turns wine-buying into a social ritual.

    Hokus Pokus Winebar & Tapas

    A relaxed spot with a well-traveled wine shelf, wines at Hokus Pokus come from all over Europe, and the staff knows their way around a bottle if you’re curious or undecided. Originally from Ostrava, their Prague branch landed in Vršovice this year with one of Prague’s most extensive selections of natural wines, including lesser-seen producers like Slovakia’s Strekov 1075. The mood is casual but focused, ideal for splitting a bottle over pâté, olives, or jamón.

    Dany’s Wine Bar

    A short stroll from the riverfront, Dany’s Wine Bar brings French charm to a quiet New Town corner. The spot, run by a former Veltlin sommelier, focuses on natural French wines, some familiar, others hard to find outside the country. The shelves mix regional bottles with Moravian picks, while the food menu is short but complimentary, including a standout meatloaf sandwich. Ideal for casual evenings that stretch unexpectedly late.

    0.75 [Sedmička]

    A Holešovice darling, 0.75 brings together minimalist design and a sharply curated list of natural wines from across Europe. Bottles are displayed along the walls, and the rotating by-the-glass menu favors lesser-known producers. It’s an easy setting for an unhurried evening – dimly lit, intimate, and just lively enough. There’s no full kitchen, but a short list of cheeses, smoked meats, and sourdough nibbles rounds out the experience.
