Mutual Fund investment: How SIP of Rs 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500 can make you a multi-crorepati | Personal Finance News

    July 24, 2024

Mutual Fund SIP calculator: Despite the surge of inflation, making a crore is still a dream for many. One can easily make a few crores if one becomes a disciplined investor at a young age.

Mutual Fund: SIP + discipline can easily make you a multi-crorepati

All investment experts repeat ad nauseam that the power of a person who takes a disciplined approach to investing from a young age is limitless. The significant point, the above hyperbole contains no exaggeration.

Anyone can begin investing from a young age. Never mind if the amount is small – the outcome will never be a small one.

Start early SIP to reach far

Let’s see how. An easy avenue that one can take to become a multi-crorepati with relatively small investments is SIP or Systematic Investment Plans in mutual funds. It involves investing a small amount in selected mutual fund schemes for a long period of time.

If it seems incredible, let’s begin with a concrete example. Let’s make a small monthly investment – Rs 1,000. Let’s make another impossible assumption – the person is not able to increase the contribution down the years.

SIP Calculator: Rs 1,000 a month

Now let him/her continue the investment of Rs 1,000 a month for 40 years. Let this person start putting in that amount when he/she is 20. By the time he/she reaches 60, the value of investments would soar to Rs 1,18,82,420 or Rs 1.18 crore.

Another assumption here is that a 12% return on investments will be obtained. It’s a rather moderate one for such a long period.

Mutual Fund SIP: Rs 1,500 a month

Now, let’s turn to a monthly SIP of Rs 1,500. The investor raises the amount by a meagre 2% every year. It means in the second year he/she invests Rs 1,530 every month and in the third year the investment rises to Rs 1,560.60 and so on. The increases are very small indeed.

If one can doggedly continue investing for 40 years, one can cross the Rs 2 crore barrier and make Rs 2,09,43,324 or Rs 2.09 crore.

This is no idle speculation. Any SIP calculator available free online at websites of major banks such as SBI, HDFC, ICICI, Axis will tell you.

    Rs 2,000 a month

Raise the amount of monthly investment to Rs 2,000 and then annually go on raising the SIP by the same 2% and you move closer to the Rs 3 crore mark. In 40 years, you could make Rs 2,79,24,432 or Rs 2.79 crore.

    Rs Rs 2,500 a month

If one manages to invest Rs 2,500 a month in the first year and keeps raising the amount by 2% annually, the result is nearly Rs 3.5 crores (Rs 3,49,05,540) when he/she turns 60.

Rs 2,500 is a small figure. It means just about Rs 80 – less than what many teenagers spend on cigarettes every day.
