Steph Curry Helps Old Teammate in Peacock Show

    July 24, 2024

While Stephen Curry is about to jet to Paris for the Olympics, he’s also about to head to Peacock for his first scripted television role. The streamer has debuted the first trailer for “Mr. Throwback,” a six-episode mockumentary series that follows the Golden State Warriors point guard (playing himself) as he reunites with his down-on-his-luck teammate from middle school, played by Adam Pally.

“I was excited to step into the world of scripted comedy with ‘Mr. Throwback,’ a story with love for family and friends at its center,” Curry, who also executive produces the series, said in a statement. The athlete debuted the trailer through his social media channels on Wednesday morning. “I’m looking forward to viewers getting to see me play a version of myself no one has ever seen before, and hope they feel connected to the characters and the dilemmas they face throughout the series.”

Alongside Curry and Pally, the cast also includes Ego Nwodim and Ayden Mayeri. Layla Scalisi and Tien Tran are recurring guest stars, as well as Tracy Letts (who was recently Emmy-nominated for his guest performance on fellow basketball series “Winning Time”) and Rich Sommer (who recently featured in another basketball series, FX’s “Clipped). David Wain directs all six episodes. The series comes from Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.

“I am honored to have joined Adam, Ego, Ayden and the producing team of David Caspe, Matthew Libman, Daniel Libman and David Wain to create this series along with Erick Peyton steering the ship at Unanimous Media,” Curry’s statement concludes. Alongside the names listed in Curry’s statement, Pally also serves as an executive producer.

“Mr. Throwback” debuts on Peacock on August 8. Watch the trailer below.
