The Eldon Arms now open as Sip n Spin on Eldon Terrace

    September 1, 2025

The Eldon Arms has been shut since September 2022 after its previous operator Wild Weather Ales closed it down.

It is soon due to be brought back into use as Nancy and Marvin’s Sip n Spin, run by social worker Nancy Magon and music teacher Marvin Carpenter.

The duo applied to reopen the pub until 11.30 pm on Fridays and Saturdays and 11 pm the rest of the week.

Since news of this broke, it has been revealed on social media that the pub has indeed reopened its doors and is back welcoming customers.

The Eldon Arms has now been re-branded as ‘Sip n Spin,’ a cafe bar where customers can play vinyl records.

One person posted on Facebook that they had visited the new bar and released a photo of their menu along with the following caption.

They said, “Lovely to see the old Eldon Arms back up and running. Sip ‘n’ Spin, Eldon Terrace, RG1 4DX. Lovely vibe and great hosts.”

Nancy and Marvin were represented by Bill Donne of Silver Fox Licensing Consultants, who announced that the application for recorded and live music had been removed.

It was determined that a licence to play recorded music and host DJs and bands would not be required, as long as the events host fewer than 500 people.

None of the neighbours were at the meeting to make their case.

Mr Donne said: “Because all representations were sent by email, it’s harder to track down where they live.”

While he acknowledged disturbances such as smashed glass and vomiting may have occurred in Eldon Terrace in the past, he argued the neighbours’ objections lacked evidence that the pub was the cause of this disturbance.

On the issue of noise, he stated the pub has strong sound insulation, and all music would be performed inside.
