PORTLAND (WGME) — The General Services Administration (GSA) will announce on Wednesday major investments in clean construction projects in Maine. The projects are aimed to combat climate change and create new jobs.
This is part of President Joe Biden’s “Investing in America” agenda.
The Biden-Harris Administration will be in Maine on Wednesday to talk about the climate investments.
One of them being at the Edward T. Gignoux Courthouse in Portland. The $3.2 million project is part of the first set of Inflation Reduction Act projects.
The General Services Administration says the goal is to hone in on clean energy and turn federal facilities into green buildings.
At the courthouse, they’ll repair and replace the building’s heating, air conditioning, and ventilation system with a new system aiming to save energy and reduce fossil fuel consumption.
And the GSA estimates that the more than $3 billion invested in these climate investments across the country will create more than 9,000 economy wide jobs.
This project at the courthouse is expected to be completed by 2027.
