Sing, sip, and socialize: Prairie Soundscape’s pub choir event – PembinaValleyOnline.com

    October 12, 2024

Prairie Soundscape’s pub choir coming to Morden

Prairie Soundscape Choir is introducing a new and exciting experience to Morden—Pub Choir! Representatives Daniel Klauke and Heidi Friesen shared, “It’s a very casual event. Anyone is welcome to come. We’ll teach a song in four-part harmony, and by the end, we’ll all sing together and create some beautiful music.” Taking place on October 18th at Finer Spirits, the event kicks off with doors opening at 7:00 PM, and the singing starting at 7:30 PM.

    No singing experience needed

Heidi emphasized that the Pub Choir is open to anyone—whether you’ve sung in a choir before or not. “You don’t have to have sung with us before,” she said. “It’s a casual setting with drinks, snacks, and music, so anyone over 18 is welcome to join us.” Prairie Soundscape’s own conductors, Melanie Urichuk and Ben Kroeker, will guide the group through the song. The best part? You don’t have to read music—just listen, follow along, and sing! At just $15, it’s an affordable and fun evening for anyone looking to socialize, sing, and have a great time.

    What is Prairie Soundscape?

For those unfamiliar, Prairie Soundscape is a local choir group based in the Pembina Valley, offering opportunities for singers of all ages and skill levels. The group actually consists of two choirs—an adult choir and a middle years choir—ensuring that there’s a place for everyone to express their love of music.

The adult choir welcomes individuals aged 18 and up, and unlike professional choirs, it does not require auditions. This makes it an accessible option for those who enjoy singing but may not feel comfortable with the high-pressure atmosphere of audition-based groups. “Our adult choir is a place where people who just love to sing can join without fear of auditions,” Heidi shared. “It’s really about building community through music.” The adult choir meets for seasonal sessions, with performances typically held in the spring.

Prairie Soundscape also offers a Middle Years choir for students in grades 5 to 8, providing young singers the chance to explore their talents in a supportive, non-competitive environment. Much like the adult choir, no auditions are required, which encourages participation and fosters a love for music from an early age. “We want kids to feel excited about singing, without the pressure of auditions or perfection,” Heidi added. Both choirs create an environment where individuals can connect over their shared passion for music, whether they’re new to singing or have been involved in choirs for years.

    How to join in

The event takes place on October 18th at Finer Spirits in Morden, with tickets available for $15. Doors open at 7:00 PM, and singing will begin at 7:30 PM. The event is open to anyone 18 and older, and tickets can be purchased online at Prairiesoundscape.ca or at the door. There will also be a cash bar available for drinks, adding to the relaxed, pub-style atmosphere.

Whether you’re an experienced singer or someone who just enjoys singing in the shower, Pub Choir promises to be a night filled with music, fun, and community spirit. “It’s really about experiencing the joy of singing together,” Heidi said. “We want people to feel the connection and community that comes from making music with others.”
