Sip and Cry with Muneyi in Sandton

    August 8, 2025

On the evening of August 7, the Standard Bank Art Lab in Nelson Mandela Square was filled with raw emotion, gentle laughter, and quiet catharsis as music lovers gathered for Sip and Cry with Muneyi, a soulful event that turned vulnerability into art.

Hosted by Muneyi, the 2025 Standard Bank Young Artist for Music, the evening unfolded as a gentle, intentional space where music met memory and storytelling met release.

For three hours, guests were invited not just to listen but to feel, to sip, cry, and exhale through a curated journey of sound and sentiment.

Muneyi, known for blending traditional Tshivenda sounds with deeply personal songwriting, offered more than a performance.

He held a conversation, through melodies, stories, and the quiet space in between, about grief, joy, identity, and healing.

Backed by a minimal setup and an intimate lighting arrangement, Muneyi created a sense of closeness in the Art Lab.

Attendees were encouraged to show up as they were, tears and all. In fact, crying wasn’t just welcomed, it was part of the experience.
