The Dorset Blind Association is hoping to bring Portland residents together for a mega darts competition at the Portland Social Club in Fortuneswell on Saturday, August 23.
Registration is from 11am with the first sets of darts to be thrown half an hour later.
Organised by Andrew Coleman, a member of Dorset Blind Association’s Portland shop team, the event promises to be a fun, family-friendly day with food available and cash prizes on offer for the top competitors — including awards for 1st place, 2nd place, and the highest placed female player.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, Andrew said: “I wanted to organise something that people locally could really enjoy while also raising money for such an important charity.
“Darts is very popular on Portland, and if this competition is successful, I’d love to look at doing more in the future.
“It is a family friendly venue but please be advised that if children are there to please be mindful that there will be darts being thrown and we don’t want anybody getting hurt.
“There is no skill level involved so if you fancy a laugh a good time to raise some money towards a brilliant charity please come along and throw some darts if not your more than welcome to be a spectator and support the local talent – you never know, you might see a secret Luke Littler.”
Sam Baker, Community Relations Officer at Dorset Blind Association, added: “It’s wonderful to see our local community coming together like this.
“Events organised by people who know and love the area have such a special impact, and we’re really grateful to Andrew for leading the way with this competition. Grassroots initiatives like this make such a difference to our fundraising and help us continue supporting over 1,000 visually impaired people across Dorset each year.”
The Dorset Blind Association has been providing practical and emotional support to blind and partially sighted people across Dorset since 1918. Their services are essential to the local community, especially with over 30,000 people in Dorset living with serious sight loss.
Entry is £10 per person for those aged 16 and older only which is payable on the day. Children are welcome to attend but must be supervised.
