Sandy Bear Children’s Bereavement Charity is organising the Sandy Bear Big Bash, a free family event taking place on Saturday, June 6 at Withybush Aerodrome.
The event aims to bring the community together while raising essential funds for the charity, which supports children and young people across Pembrokeshire and Wales who are grieving the death of someone close.
A parent supported by the charity said: “We never thought something like a fun run would matter so much, but it did.
“It was the first time we saw our child smile without forcing it.
“Sandy Bear helped make that possible.”
The day will begin at 11am with the Sandy Bear Fun Run, featuring accessible 1.5km and 3km routes suitable for all abilities, including wheelchair users and families with pushchairs.
A registration fee of £5 applies, with funds directly contributing to local bereavement support services.
After the run, the main pavilion will host the Big Bash, featuring stalls, food, entertainment, performances, and a lively party atmosphere.
The event is designed to be inclusive and joyful, capturing the sense of community that Sandy Bear sees every day through its work with families, volunteers, and supporters.
Charity leaders say events like the Big Bash are vital not only for fundraising, but for raising awareness and building connections.
They also hope the day will encourage people to reconnect with their communities and show support for organisations making a life-changing impact, often behind the scenes.
Advance registration for the fun run is recommended, as the event is expected to be busy.
Limited registration will be available on the day from 10.15am.
The Sandy Bear Big Bash comes at a time when charities across Wales are facing increasing financial challenges and rising demand for services.
Organisers say the event is an opportunity to celebrate the work of Sandy Bear while coming together in support of families navigating grief.
