Federated Investors (NYSE: FII) was founded in 1955 and is a publicly traded company.
The Pittsburgh-based firm expanded globally in 2012 when it acquired U.K.-based Prime Rate Capital Management, which has now been renamed Federated Investors. FII offers 129 domestic and international equity, fixed income and money market funds, as well as various separately managed accounts. These assets can be purchased through the firm’s 9,600 financial intermediaries and institutions.
The growth in the firm is partly attributed to its acquisitive strategy. In 2016, the firm launched its latest investment option, the Federated Equity Advantage Fund, an all-cap mutual fund, which invests primarily in the stocks of companies with leveraged balance sheets and strong free cash flow.
In addition to its mutual fund offerings, the firm also manages the West Virginia Money Market Pool and Massachusetts Municipal Depository Trust.
