Bitcoin ETFs bleed $225M while Ether funds quietly attract capital

    July 24, 2026

On Wednesday, US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $225M in net outflows. The same day, Ether ETFs quietly pulled in $26M. That kind of divergence is worth paying attention to.

The backdrop was a rough day for anyone holding risk assets. Tech earnings season delivered a few gut punches, and the broader market took note.

Google fell roughly 7% after reporting. Intel and Tesla both dropped despite beating analyst estimates. When companies beat expectations and still sell off, that tells you something about how fragile sentiment actually is right now.

Bitcoin slipped below $64K on the day. Ethereum drifted near $1,858, Solana traded around $74, and XRP held near $1.09. Nothing collapsed, but nothing looked particularly healthy either.

What the ETF flows are actually telling us

Here is the thing about ETF flow data: it is one of the cleaner signals we have for institutional sentiment. Retail traders move on price. Institutions move on conviction, and right now, conviction around Bitcoin is wobbling.

A $225M single-day outflow is not catastrophic in isolation. But paired with a Fear and Greed Index sitting at 28, squarely in Fear territory, it paints a picture of investors trimming exposure rather than adding to it.

The index sat at 27 the prior week, so we are not looking at a dramatic shift in mood. This is more like a slow bleed of confidence, the kind that tends to precede either a sharp recovery or a deeper leg down, depending on what macro catalysts show up next.

The Ether ETF inflow of $26M is comparatively small in dollar terms, but the direction matters. While Bitcoin funds were seeing redemptions, Ethereum funds were attracting fresh capital. That is not nothing.

One possible read: some institutional players are rotating. Bitcoin is the higher-beta, macro-correlated trade. Ethereum carries its own narrative around network utility, DeFi, and upcoming protocol developments. When macro sentiment sours, some managers may prefer the asset with more idiosyncratic upside.

Tech earnings, risk-off, and the crypto correlation problem

Crypto has spent years trying to argue it is an uncorrelated asset class. Wednesday was not a great day for that argument.

When Google drops 7% on an earnings miss and Bitcoin follows risk assets lower, the correlation thesis comes back into focus. The uncomfortable reality is that during genuine risk-off moves, crypto tends to move with equities, not against them. The diversification benefit shows up most clearly when markets are calm, not when they are stressed.

Intel and Tesla dropping despite beating estimates is a classic late-cycle signal. It means the market was already priced for perfection, and perfection was not enough. That kind of environment tends to compress risk appetite across the board, and crypto sits firmly in the risk-on bucket for most institutional allocators.

Solana’s 3.1% decline over 24 hours was the steepest among the major assets tracked. Bitcoin fell 1.2% and Ethereum dropped 1.8% in the same window. Solana tends to amplify broader market moves in both directions, so a rougher day for risk was always going to hit SOL harder.

Over seven days, Bitcoin was still up 1.5%, which is the kind of stat that prevents a full-blown panic narrative from taking hold. A single bad day of ETF flows against a slightly positive weekly return is a data point, not a trend.

What investors should be watching from here

The DeFi sector was the top-performing category on a seven-day basis, though it posted a flat 0% gain. When flat is the best performance in the category rankings, the market is telling you it is in a holding pattern.

For Bitcoin ETF flows specifically, the pattern to watch is whether outflows persist across multiple days or snap back. A single day of heavy redemptions can be noise. Three or four consecutive days of outflows starts to look like a directional shift in institutional appetite.

The Ethereum flow story is more interesting than it might appear. The spot Ether ETF products in the US are still relatively young compared to their Bitcoin counterparts, and any consistent positive flow trend would signal that institutional adoption is broadening beyond Bitcoin. That has longer-term structural implications for how the market matures.

The macro calendar matters here too. If earnings season continues to deliver sell-the-news reactions on tech, risk appetite will stay compressed. Bitcoin, as the most liquid and macro-sensitive crypto asset, will likely absorb the most pressure in that scenario. Ethereum and DeFi assets might find a bit more shelter, though shelter is relative when Fear and Greed is sitting at 28.

Investors who have been waiting for a cleaner entry point on Bitcoin might be watching the $64K level closely. A sustained break below it on heavy ETF outflow volume would be a more concerning signal than what Wednesday alone produced. Conversely, a quick reversal in flows alongside stabilizing tech stocks would suggest the dip was a shakeout rather than the start of a new trend lower.
