Katrina Baur’s request for bond reduction denied

    August 7, 2024

MANITOWOC, Wis. (WBAY) – The mother of missing 3-year-old Elijah Vue has had her request for bond reduction denied.

At a bond hearing on Wednesday, Katrina Baur, whose initial lawyer withdrew from the case on Monday, had her request to have her $15,000 cash bond reduced to a personal recognizance bond or a maximum cash bond of $5,000 denied.

The judge also modified the condition that she couldn’t have contact with any children under the age of 18, now allowing her to have supervised contact with only her children.

Katrina Baur will be back in court for a status conference on Oct. 22 at 3 p.m.

PREVIOUS: According to court documents, Katrina Baur has asked the court to modify her $15,000 cash bond ahead of her next court appearance.

On Wednesday, Baur’s attorney Ann Larson filed a motion asking for Baur’s bond in her child neglect and obstructing an officer case to be changed to either a personal recognizance bond or a maximum cash bond of $5,000.

The motion states that: “Ms. Baur is unable to post the cash bail as set and has been confined in the Manitowoc County Jail since February 21, 2024. She agrees to abide by any other conditions as set forth by the Court and to attend all future court hearings.”

In the motion, Baur also asks the court to remove the condition that she isn’t allowed to have contact with children under the age of 18.

Katrina Baur is due back in court on August 5 for a scheduling conference.

PREVIOUS: The plea hearing for the mother of a missing 3-year-old has been postponed for a second time.

The attorney for Katrina Baur said in a letter to the court that there’s a scheduling conflict with the currently scheduled plea date. Updated online court records Tuesday show it’s been moved to August 5 and changed into a scheduling conference.

Baur appeared in court briefly for a plea hearing last week, where her attorney asked for more time to work out items of discussion.

Katrina Baur faces charges of chronic child neglect and obstructing an officer. She has pleaded not guilty.

It’s been nearly five months since her arrest and the disappearance of her son, Elijah Vue.

Court documents say Baur left Elijah with her boyfriend Jesse Vang because she thought he was misbehaving. The criminal complaint says she wanted Vang to teach Elijah how to, “be a man.”

Police say they found a deleted picture of Elijah on Baur’s phone showing him blindfolded on a bed with what appears to be bruises on his jaw, neck, and arm inside Vang’s apartment. Vang reported Elijah missing from that same apartment in Two Rivers less than a week later in February.

Vang also faces criminal charges. No one has been charged with Elijah’s disappearance.
