Mets’ Juan Soto joins Barry Bonds as 2nd player in MLB history with these season stats

    September 20, 2025

Mets’ Juan Soto joins Barry Bonds as 2nd player in MLB history with these season stats originally appeared on The Sporting News

Not bad for a “down year.”

There’s been a suggestion all season long that this isn’t the usual Juan Soto in his first year with the New York Mets.

Except maybe it’s time to look again.

His numbers are absurd, so much so that he just joined Barry Bonds in MLB history.

Before Saturday, Bonds was the only player to ever have at least 40 homers, 35 steals and 110 walks in a season. He did it twice, in both 1996 and 1997.

Soto is now in that club, with MLB Network’s Sarah Langs sharing the connection on X.

The steals are the remarkable part, and the stat that got Soto into the club by swiping a bag on Saturday.

Before this season, Soto’s single-season best for steals was 12.

    He’s now got 35.

He’s on pace to lead the league in walks for a fourth time.

    And his 42 homers are a career-high.

So yeah, Soto turned it around after a slow start.

The Mets have needed it, too, as they attempt to cling to the final wild card spot.

With Soto playing like this, they’ve got a great chance of hanging on and even making some noise once the playoffs get here.
