Newton School Board Clears Path for Large School Bond Deposit | KNIA KRLS Radio

    October 15, 2024

    school-board-2-2

The Newton School Board has wrapped up the legal requirements associated with the issuance of $9,500,000 of School Infrastructure Sales, Services, and Use Tax Revenue bonds. During last night’s  regular board meeting, four resolutions were unanimously approved. Director of Business Services Tim Bloom, says this board action means the money can now be deposited into the district’s account.

“After I file all these things, we should have the money in our account by the end of the month.”

This bond money will pay for school additions and renovations as the Newton School District transitions to having just two elementary buildings instead of four. Currently, three elementary schools are open. Last school year, all four were used; Aurora Heights Elementary is not open this year. Renovations and an addition will be added to it first, as it will be one of the two remaining buildings used. Thomas Jefferson Elementary will also be added onto and renovated. It is going to remain open while that work is done. A Public Hearing for that project was set last night. It will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, October 28th, an hour before that evening’s regular school board meeting.
