    BPCE serait en pôle position pour racheter Novo Banco

    (Boursier.com) — BPCE serait désormais considéré comme le principal candidat à l’acquisition du prêteur portugais Novo Banco auprès de Lone Star Funds. Citant des personnes au fait du dossier, ‘Bloomberg’ croit savoir que le groupe français a pris de l’avance sur son principal rival, l’Espagnol CaixaBank, et tente d’établir les termes d’un accord. Lone Star envisage également une cotation en bourse de Novo Banco et n’aurait pas encore fait son choix final.

    La société d’investissement américaine pourrait prendre une décision dans les prochains jours, selon les sources. Lone Star détient 75% du capital de Novo Banco, tandis que le gouvernement portugais en possède 25% par l’intermédiaire d’entités telles que le Fonds de résolution du pays. Novo Banco est la quatrième banque du Portugal.

    L’acquisition de Novo Banco par BPCE contribuerait à renforcer la consolidation bancaire transfrontalière en Europe, à un moment où les gouvernements entravent de telles opérations. L’agence rappelle que l’Espagne s’est opposée au projet de rachat de Banco Sabadell par BBVA tandis que l’Italie a imposé une série de conditions au projet d’achat de Banco BPM par UniCredit. Parallèlement, l’Allemagne s’est déclarée contre une éventuelle acquisition de Commerzbank par UniCredit.
