PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The Maricopa Board of Supervisors is sending an additional $500,000 to its workforce development apprenticeship program.
In November 2022, the board awarded $12 million to support apprentices throughout the county. The program is estimated to help 3,000 people to find apprenticeships through 2026.
The program connects participants to career pathways that support in-demand industries like construction, healthcare, IT and advanced manufacturing.
“Registered apprenticeships are really the new wave of training and workforce development; participants are able to enroll in these programs and earn a living wage while they are getting credentialed for their industry of choice,” said Jared Beard, assistant director of Workforce Development for Maricopa County. “This is a great option other than college really because it allows people to continue to make a wage while they’re learning, while they’re growing in the industry they want to work in.”
The funding approved for the program is part of Maricopa County’s $871 million allocation of dollars from the federal American Rescue Plan Act.
