The billions in unclaimed cash that could be YOURS – from lost pensions to trust funds

    September 17, 2025

IS your bank balance in need of a cash injection?

There are billions of pounds worth of unclaimed cash sitting in accounts.

So make sure you are not missing out . . .

PREMIUM BONDS: More than £100million worth of Premium Bonds prizes go unclaimed from the monthly draws.

Many account holders may have forgotten or don’t know they have the accounts.

If you think there is a chance you could hold bonds, contact provider NS&I directly to check.

Or if you know you have bonds, keep your contact details up to date.

You can also opt to have prizes automatically paid directly into your bank account to avoid missing out.

CHILD TRUST FUNDS: Billions of pounds are thought to be left sitting unclaimed in matured Child Trust Funds.

It’s believed many account holders aren’t aware they have the old savings accounts which the Government often automatically sets up.

Anyone born between September 1, 2002, and January 2, 2011, could be missing out.

You can go to an online tool at gov.uk and fill in a form to try to trace the cash using your National Insurance number and date of birth.

How to protect your pension and Inheritance from the new Budget

LOST PENSIONS: Workers are now automatically enrolled into pension schemes when joining a company. But when moving on to new jobs, many people lose track of their savings. It’s estimated around £31billon of cash is disconnected from owners.

Track down accounts using the Pension Tracing Service at gov.uk. Providers could also be able to help.

LOTTERY WINS: You have 180 days to claim a lottery win. There are currently two unclaimed £1million prizes through the Lotto and EuroMillions.

Both tickets were bought in the Birmingham area, and one win is the UK Millionaire Maker.

It’s always worth taking your ticket to a shop where they can check if you are a winner, before throwing the ticket away.
