Insurance giant Transamerica offers a large array of mutual funds representing asset classes such as U.S. equity, global and international equity, fixed income, alternatives, asset allocation, target date and hybrid allocation. The latter are designed to tactically manage risk; they invest mainly in underlying exchange-traded funds. All of Transamerica’s funds are subadvised by other firms, including Aegon USA Investment Management, J.P. Morgan Asset Management, Morgan Stanley Investment Management and Wellington Management. In total, the firm works with more than 20 subadvisors throughout its various strategies.
The firm has the greatest number of funds in the fixed income and U.S. equity categories. Its asset allocation funds, subadvised by Morningstar Associates, a unit of the market research firm, offer broad asset class diversification within one investment. Transamerica also offers target date funds, which adjust to a more conservative allocation as the account owner approaches retirement. These are subadvised by QS Investors.
