[Part 20] Opening the Investment Report for Mutual Funds You Have Purchased|studiox

    October 3, 2026

Part 20 covers the “Investment Report” that arrives after you have purchased a mutual fund. Even if you read the prospectus before buying, do you only look at the balance screen afterward? In addition to the results of whether it increased or decreased, there is a document that confirms how the investment was managed during that period. Rather than trying to understand everything at once, let’s start by opening it with one thing you want to know.

◆ Explanations before buying and reports after buying

The investment report is a document that informs you how a mutual fund was managed and what the results were. In principle, it is created for each settlement period, but there are different handling procedures for the creation and delivery timing for mutual funds that settle over short periods. It is also important not to assume that you will receive the same report every month just because it is a monthly distribution type.

The “Delivered Investment Report” provided to investors summarizes important items. There is also a more detailed “Investment Report (Full Version),” which can sometimes be checked on the investment management company’s website. If the prospectus is an explanation for understanding the product, the investment report is a clue to looking back at the actual management.

◆ At first, look at the period and the progress of management

The first thing you want to check is when the report covers. The reference point may be different from today’s balance screen. If you compare only the numbers without aligning the periods, you will end up comparing different periods while thinking you are looking at the same thing.

Next, read the explanation of the transition of the net asset value and the main factors of fluctuation. By looking at the price movement graph and the explanatory text as a set, it becomes easier to grasp which assets and investment environments were involved than just looking at the results. You don’t have to look up every term you don’t understand; you can just choose one.

◆ Check expenses and future policies in the same document

The delivered investment report also includes “Details of expenses per 10,000 units” and “Future management policies.” The expense details do not mean that the same amount was directly deducted from your account. Check the explanation in the document and read what kind of expenses are shown and in what units.

Future policies do not promise future profits either. It is important not to think that the same results will continue just because past performance was good. The purpose of reading the document is not to decide on buying or selling immediately, but to understand the management of the products you hold.

Today, start by opening one report and taking notes on the “Target Period” and “Explanations that caught your interest.” This is a general way of reading documents and is not an article recommending the purchase or sale of specific products.
