This mutual fund has turned ₹10,000 monthly SIP into ₹19.58 lakh in 11 years

    May 28, 2025

Franklin India Banking & PSU Debt Fund has completed 11 years since its launch in 2014. A monthly Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) of ₹10,000 in the fund since inception would have grown to ₹19.58 lakh as of May 2025, according to data shared by Franklin Templeton Mutual Fund.

A one-time investment of ₹10,000 at launch would now be worth ₹21,942.

The scheme, which recently crossed ₹500 crore in assets under management (AUM), invests at least 80% of its portfolio in debt instruments issued by banks, public sector undertakings (PSUs), and municipal bodies.

The fund is currently managed by Chandni Gupta and Anuj Tagra. It aims to deliver optimal risk-adjusted returns while maintaining a relatively low credit risk profile.
As of April 30, 2025, about 57% of the fund’s portfolio was in PSU debt and 16% in government securities.

Over the last one-year and three-year periods, the fund has outperformed its benchmark.

The strategy also seeks to reduce interest rate volatility by maintaining portfolio quality.

The fund is positioned as a suitable option for conservative investors with a time horizon of at least one year, particularly those looking for stable income with limited exposure to credit risk.

While the fund has delivered steady returns, fixed income investments remain sensitive to changes in interest rates and macroeconomic conditions. Investors should assess their risk tolerance and investment goals before choosing debt funds.
