NEWTOWN, PA — Two of the community’s most cherished non-profits, the Newtown Theatre and Pickering Manor, will come together on November 14 for a Sip & Suds fundraiser for Pickering Manor and the community is invited to attend.
The two institutions share a unique connection. Both are guided by the Community Welfare Council of Newtown, making them “second cousins” in the heart of town.
The Newtown Theatre, the nation’s oldest continuously operating movie theatre, has been a gathering place for generations. Under the leadership of Executive Director Andrew Smith, it has transformed into a vibrant cultural hub, hosting thousands each month for films, concerts, and performances.
Pickering Manor, a cornerstone of care in Bucks County for over 60 years, also embodies the spirit of community. Offering a full continuum of care, Pickering has provided a home for Newtown and beyond, ensuring compassionate, high-quality service. Led by CEO David Woodhead, Pickering Manor continues to evolve to meet the needs of the community.

These two non-profits reflect what makes Newtown special — rooted in tradition while always growing to serve the community. Whether through Pickering’s intergenerational programs or the theatre’s expanding events, they bring people together.
Sips N’ Suds Fundraiser
And speaking of bringing people together, on Thursday, Nov. 14 Pickering Manor will host its annual Sips n’ Suds fundraiser at Rafters in Newtown. The evening will feature wine, distillery and craft beer tastings, a VIP Philly-themed tailgate menu (Go Birds!), a silent auction, music, and dancing.
A highlight of the event will be the presentation of the Sidney T. Yates Award to Andrew Smith, the executive director of Pickering’s cousin, the historic Newtown Theatre. The award honors individuals who have made significant contributions to both Pickering Manor and Newtown.
The event will celebrate the vibrant spirit of Newtown while supporting Pickering Manor’s mission to provide exceptional care.
