Sip and paint event to raise funds for Kempton Ferals’ cat rescue work

    November 15, 2025

Local artist Sonette van der Merwe is inviting residents to a sip and paint fundraising event in support of Kempton Ferals NPO, which works to trap, sterilise, and rehome stray cats in the community.

The event will take place at Bembom in Rynfield on November 29 from 14:00.

Tickets cost R385 per person, which includes all painting materials, a welcome drink and snacks.

Van der Merwe said Kempton Ferals recently reached out for help as the organisation has been struggling to raise enough funds to continue its work.

“The NPO is close to my heart. I believe that if we can get the broader community involved, we could secure a larger venue and attract a bigger crowd, helping them raise the funds they so desperately need,” said Van der Merwe.

She added that the current venue can only accommodate 40 guests, but with the right space and support, she could comfortably host up to 130 people.

“Kempton Ferals does incredible work by trapping and sterilising stray cats, taking in mothers with kittens and finding them loving homes.

“They’re a true asset to the community, and I’d love to do as much as possible to help them continue their mission,” she said.

Van der Merwe encouraged community members and local businesses to get involved and support the cause.
