SIP inflow hits record ₹32,297 crore in August; new registrations at 66.39 lakh

    September 10, 2026

Monthly systematic investment plan (SIP) contributions into mutual funds hit a record high of ₹32,297 crore in August, rising from ₹31,115 crore in July, according to data released by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) on Thursday.

The August SIP contribution was ₹1,182 crore higher than July, translating into a 3.8% month-on-month increase.

The August figure was also around 14% higher than ₹28,265 crore collected in August 2025, according to data shared by Shashwat Singh, Fundamental Analyst at Bajaj Broking.

Singh said the record SIP contribution came despite the headline equity indices declining in August. The Nifty 50 fell 1.2% and the Sensex declined 1.5% during the month, ending a two-month winning run.

According to Singh, the more significant aspect of the SIP data is the consistency in monthly collections, rather than the record itself. He noted that SIP contributions have remained in a relatively narrow range for several months, without the slowdown that some investors had expected following two strong years.

The industry recorded 66.39 lakh new SIP registrations during August, while 53.82 lakh SIPs were discontinued during the month.

The latest data comes as net equity mutual fund inflows also increased to ₹29,315 crore in August, from ₹24,685 crore in July.

SIP flows have remained a key component of mutual fund mobilisation, with investors making regular contributions rather than investing a lump sum at one go.Separately, the mutual fund industry recorded ₹10,161 crore of total ETF inflows in August. Equity ETFs accounted for ₹7,237 crore, while gold ETFs received ₹2,597 crore and silver ETFs saw ₹1,271 crore in inflows.

Rohit Sarin, Co-Founder of Client Associates, said the August numbers showed continued investor participation in equities despite global uncertainty. He said the flows across equity categories, along with inflows into gold and silver ETFs, pointed to investors continuing to allocate across asset classes.

“Investors aren’t getting rattled by short-term market swings. They’re playing the long game,” Sarin said.

Sarin added that the combination of equity, precious-metal and other alternative investments highlighted the importance of disciplined asset allocation.

Specialised Investment Funds (SIFs) recorded ₹7,699 crore of inflows during August, according to the AMFI data.
