Many Followers form automatic Bonds, while others are locked behind conversation checks involving the five Royal Virtues: Courage, Wisdom, Tolerance, Eloquence, and Imagination.
How to Increase Follower Bonds
Unlike Persona, Followers in Metaphor: ReFantazio will rank up no matter which dialogue choices you pick when speaking to them during their unique events. Instead, picking the correct dialogue options rewards you with Magla (MAG) – the currency used to study new Archetypes and inherit moves.
However, at times, you need to complete side quests in order to unlock the next Bond event conversation for certain characters.
After you complete the first major dungeon in Regalith Grand Cathedral, you’ll be able to hear your Followers’ voices whenever you have free time. Bring up the Followers menu and visit the ones with exclamation marks over their heads to start conversations that raise Bond levels.
The Bond rank-up symbol won’t appear for certain characters if you haven’t yet discovered or been to the part of a town where they hang out. So, be sure to fully explore towns to continue increasing those Bonds.
For example, Hulkenberg is often found waiting inside town inns, but if you haven’t been to a town’s inn, she won’t have the Bond rank-up symbol next to her in the Followers menu.
