Watch: Barry Bonds Inducted Into Pirates Hall of Fame

    August 24, 2024

PITTSBURGH — Barry Bonds, Major League Baseball’s all-time home run leader, was officially inducted into the Pittsburgh Pirates team Hall of Fame at PNC Park on Saturday.

Bonds was one in a three-man class for 2024, joined by his former manager Jim Leyland and two-time World Series catcher Manny Sanguillen in the third-ever class.

After he was selected with the sixth pick in the 1985 draft, Bonds made his major-league debut the following season and spent the first seven years of his career in Pittsburgh playing for Leyland.

While with the Pirates, he accumulated a .275/.380/.503 batting line with 220 doubles, 36 triples, 176 home runs, 556 RBIs and 251 stolen bases. Bonds won two MVP awards, was a two-time All-Star, won three Silver Sluggers and three Gold Gloves. He was a key part of the teams that won three-straight division titles from 1990-92.

Following the 1992 season, Bonds signed as a free agent with his hometown San Francisco Giants and emerged as one of the greatest players to ever play the game.

Bonds was introduced second behind Sanguillen and before Leyland. After receiving his plaque and his Hall of Fame jacket, Bonds took the stage and delivered a speech, which can be seen below.

During his induction speech, he thanked several prominent people in his life, discussed his career with the Pirates and life in the city of Pittsburgh as well as much more.
