Evansville to replace firetruck with SLIB Grant funds

    August 27, 2024

EVANSVILLE, Wyo. — The Evansville Fire Department will be replacing a brush truck in its fleet that is more than 30 years old, after the Evansville Town Council on Monday approved a State Lands and Investments Board grant that will cover about half of the cost.

The SLIB Grant is for $135,000, and Evansville Fire Chief Leo Malsom said the total cost for the new truck will be roughly $270,000.

The rest of the funds will be drawn from the money the department has made for sending trucks and firefighters to assist with other fires throughout the state.

“The other half of the money is money that the fire department’s been saving from sending Brush 12 out to out-of-town assignments,” the chief said. “We’ve been saving that money for about four or five years.”

The Evansville Fire Department currently has three firefighters out on one such assignment, as Lt. Stew Anderson, Captain Dan Coursen and Engineer Jeff Park were recently dispatched to assist in fighting the House Draw Fire before being reassigned to the Remington Fire on the Wyoming-Montana border.

Malsom estimated that it will ultimately be about a year before the new truck actually joins the department’s fleet

The old truck will be sold via public auction, Malsom said.
