Hershey Board of Trustees meet to discuss future sidewalk installation and ARPA funding

    October 16, 2024

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP)—The Hershey Board of Trustees met on Tuesday to discuss future sidewalk installation and ARPA funding.

A recent community study revealed that several properties in the area do not have sidewalks. Planning and zoning recommended that any future residential building have an ordinance with sidewalks.

Tuesday’s recommendation was just a suggestion, and no action was taken at Tuesday night’s meeting. The Village of Hershey will look to discuss this in the near future, knowing how important it is for its residents to have updated sidewalks.

Thomas Wolfgang is the chairman of the Hershey Board of Trustees, and said that it’s not just sidewalks that will be installed.

“It would not just be the sidewalks; it would be the curbs, which would be ADA compliant, the curbs and ramps, and that kind of stuff; too, so it’s a big project, and we will just have a look at that and see how all of that fits in,” Wolfgang said.

Another important issue that the board of trustees discussed is ARPA funds that need to be spent by December of this year. The board of trustees has ideas about how they would like to use these funds, but nothing is set in stone at this time.

“It’s an upgrade to our water on Canal Street. Three different residents are hooked up to one water line, so in an emergency situation. If we had to shut off the water over there, three different residents would have to be turned off, and we want to get that problem corrected. That issue has been on the books for a while as far as the water goes, and we feel that is an important issue to get corrected,” Wolfgang said.

The Hershey Board of Trustees will discuss the potential project at next month’s meeting.
