KDE seeking public comment on waiver request related to federal funding

Graphic reading: Seeking Public Comment, Kentucky Department of Education(FRANKFORT, KY) – The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) is seeking public comment on the state’s request to waive the carryover limitation for Title I, Part A and to extend the period of availability of funds for programs under the Every Student Succeeds Act.

The request for the waiver, which will be submitted to the U.S. Department of Education (USED), is meant to address ongoing needs stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic and would give districts more time to spend down their funds.

KDE is seeking extended timelines for Title I; Title II, Part A; Title III, Part A; Title IV, Parts A and B; and Title V, Part B.

The full waiver can be accessed online on KDE’s website. To request an accessible version, please contact Meredith Brewer, director of education policy for KDE.

The public comment period will be held from Aug. 21 to Aug. 28. Public comments must be received by 5 p.m. ET on Aug. 28, 2024.

Comments may be emailed to kdecommunications@education.ky.gov or submitted to Todd Allen, General Counsel, Kentucky Department of Education, 300 Sower Blvd, 5th Floor, Frankfort, KY 40601. Comments also may be submitted via fax at (502) 564-9321. All comments that are received during the window will be considered before submission of the waiver to USED.
