Private Equity-Venture Capital (PE-VC) investments saw a surge in September, rising to $6.1 billion across 114 deals— the highest monthly investment level in over four years.
September investments were up 25 per cent from $4.9 billion across 103 deals in August 2026, while more than 2X the $2.5 billion invested across 128 deals in September 2025, as per data from research firm Venture Intelligence.
It was also the highest recorded in a single month since 2022, when PE-VC investments stood at $6.2 billion.
Mega deals
The momentum was driven by a surge in mega deals (over 100 million) both in terms of value and volume, with 12 such deals in September 2026, that led to more than $4.9 billion in proceeds, markedly higher than the $1.35 billion in 8 deals in the same month last year.
The largest investment in the month was Canadian investment group La Caisse’s purchase of a 24 per cent stake in Altius Telecom Infrastructure Trust (Altius), India’s largest independent telecom tower platform, for $1.3 billion.
Other major deals included private airport operator Adani Airport Holdings from the Adani Group raising $1 billion from Alpha Wave Global, Premji Invest, Temasek and BlackRock-managed funds as well as global investment company Brookfield’s $600 million investment in renewable energy major ACME Cleantech Ventures.
Meanwhile, a resurgence in PE-VC activity in June, July and August has helped investments reach $31.6 billion across 1,042 deals in 2026 (YTD) as against $39 billion across 1,425 deals in the whole of 2025.
Early-stage investment
Investments in early-stage companies dropped to $226 million in September 2026, down from $326 million in September 2025. Growth-stage investments shot up 2X to $1.7 billion as against $850 million.
Average cheques for early-stage investments stood at $4 million, while for the growth stage, it was $56 million ($25 million). For the late stage, it went up to $61 million ($46 million).
“The surge in investments in infrastructure sectors, ranging from airports and toll roads to telecom, has been a key driver of the overall figures for the month. Increased activity across these sectors, particularly through large-ticket transactions, has helped push PE-VC investments to significantly higher levels in September,” said Arun Natarajan, Founder, Venture Intelligence.
