NSE report said equity AUM had risen steadily after moderating in March 2026.
Equity mutual fund assets rose to a fresh record of ₹48.5 lakh crore in July, accounting for 56 per cent of the mutual fund industry’s overall Average Assets Under Management (AAUM), as active equity schemes continued to see strong growth, according to the NSE Market Pulse report for August.
The report said equity AUM had risen steadily after moderating in March 2026, with active equity schemes registering 13.3 per cent year-on-year growth and accounting for nearly 78 per cent of total equity AUM. Their share of the overall mutual fund industry’s AAUM also reached 44 per cent.
“Equity and hybrid AAUM scale fresh highs in July,” the NSE report said, highlighting the continued expansion of equity-oriented mutual fund assets.
Within open-ended equity schemes, flexi-cap funds held the largest share of assets at 15.6 per cent, followed by thematic funds at 14.6 per cent, mid-cap funds at 13.6 per cent and small-cap funds at 11.5 per cent. Together, these four categories accounted for more than 55 per cent of equity AUM.
SIPs keep momentum
The report also pointed to continued investor participation through systematic investment plans (SIPs). Monthly SIP contributions stood at ₹31,961 crore in July, remaining above ₹30,000 crore for the fifth consecutive month. Cumulative SIP contributions in the first four months of FY27 reached ₹1.3 lakh crore, up 15.4 per cent year-on-year.
SIP assets crossed ₹18 lakh crore for the first time, reaching ₹18.2 lakh crore in July and accounting for 21.1 per cent of the mutual fund industry’s overall assets. The report said this reflected the “sustained pace of investor participation.”
Meanwhile, passive funds also reached a fresh record, with AAUM rising to ₹15.5 lakh crore, up 23.3 per cent year-on-year. Equity passive funds accounted for nearly 68 per cent of passive assets, while gold and silver ETFs also recorded strong growth.
In contrast, debt fund AAUM declined 0.4 per cent year-on-year to ₹21.7 lakh crore, mainly due to a sharp contraction in passive debt funds, while active debt assets remained broadly subdued.
With equity AUM, SIP assets and passive funds all at record levels, the report’s July data points to continued expansion of the mutual fund industry’s equity-oriented segment, while debt assets remain comparatively subdued.
