These large-cap mutual funds have turned ₹10,000 monthly SIP into over ₹27 lakh in a decade

    June 4, 2025

Large-cap mutual funds are usually known for stability, not high returns. But a few funds in this segment have outperformed over the last decade. According to data analysed by Value Research, six large-cap mutual funds delivered over ₹27 lakh on a ₹10,000 monthly SIP over a 10-year period — translating into more than 16% annualised returns.

Fund Name 10-Year SIP Return (%) Assets Under Management (₹ Cr) Expense Ratio (%)
Nippon India Large Cap Fund (Direct Plan) 17.83% 39,677 0.67
ICICI Prudential Bluechip Fund (Direct Plan) 17.03% 68,034 0.85
Canara Robeco Bluechip Equity Fund (Direct Plan) 16.91% 15,621 0.46
Invesco India Largecap Fund (Direct Plan) 16.38% 1,424 0.75
Baroda BNP Paribas Large Cap Fund (Direct Plan) 16.17% 2,543 0.77
Edelweiss Large Cap Fund (Direct Plan) 16.07% 1,229 0.62

These funds have consistently invested in robust sectors such as banking, information technology, and infrastructure. Top holdings across these schemes include stalwarts like HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Reliance Industries, and Larsen & Toubro, as per Value Research note.

The SIP approach allowed investors to benefit from rupee cost averaging, mitigating market volatility and enhancing long-term gains.

While the past performance of these funds is decent, financial experts advise caution.

Large-cap funds are designed for stability, and while these returns are impressive, they may not be replicated in every market cycle. Investors should align their investments with long-term financial goals and risk tolerance, rather than solely chasing past returns, experts say.

Moreover, fund performance can vary with changes in fund managers, sector allocation, or market conditions.
