₹10,000 monthly SIP for nearly 28 years: This flexi-cap fund has built a ₹7 crore-plus corpus

    September 3, 2026

A ₹10,000 monthly SIP in Aditya Birla Sun Life Flexi Cap Fund since its launch on August 27, 1998 would have grown to around ₹7.25 crore by August 31, 2026, according to data released by Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC.

That means the investment was held for nearly 28 years. During this period, the investor would have put in a total of ₹33.5 lakh through monthly SIPs, while the investment’s value would have risen to ₹7.25 crore, based on the fund’s reported historical returns.

The fund’s SIP return since inception was 17.92%, according to the data. Over the past 10 years, the SIP return stood at 14.36%.

The nearly three-decade period is important when looking at this example. It captures multiple market cycles and a long period of compounding. The outcome should therefore not be treated as an estimate of what a ₹10,000 monthly SIP will earn over a shorter or future investment period.

    What the SIP numbers show

The ₹10,000 monthly SIP example highlights the impact of staying invested over a long period. The total amount invested since the fund’s launch was ₹33.5 lakh, while the value as of August 31, 2026, was ₹7.25 crore.

For comparison, a ₹10,000 monthly SIP over the past 10 years would have involved a total investment of ₹12 lakh and grown to around ₹25.42 lakh by August 31, 2026. Over five years, ₹6 lakh invested through the same monthly SIP would have grown to around ₹8.54 lakh.

These figures show why the investment period matters when assessing SIP returns. The nearly 28-year example benefited from a much longer period of compounding than the five- or 10-year examples.

However, historical returns cannot be assumed to continue at the same rate. Equity mutual funds are market-linked and can experience significant fluctuations, including periods of losses.

What investors should keep in mind

The ₹7.25 crore figure is a historical illustration based on the fund’s performance since August 27, 1998. It does not mean that a ₹10,000 monthly SIP will necessarily reach the same value in another 28-year period.

Actual returns will depend on market performance and the period over which the investment remains invested. Investors should also consider their risk tolerance, financial goals and investment horizon before choosing an equity mutual fund.
