Barcelona board to donate €7m worth of personal funds in bid to register Marcus Rashford

    August 13, 2025

Barcelona are scrambling to register Marcus Rashford in time for the start of their La Liga title defence against Real Mallorca.

According to The Athletic, Barca are unable to register their new signings and are now resorting to unorthodox means to bolster their financial situation.

There are only a couple of days left until the curtain raiser, but Barcelona have been unable to register Rashford and fellow new signing Joan Garcia.

The La Liga champions held an emergency board meeting on Wednesday, where senior board members offered personal assets as part of a €7 million bank guarantee.

It’s not the first time they have been down this route. They did something similar back in June 2023 when they pledged personal funds to help ease the club’s financial turmoil.

Barca have now confirmed they received clearance from La Liga to register Garcia, replacing the injured Marc-Andre ter Stegen after the league’s medical panel confirmed his long-term absence.

While that sorts out the goalkeeping issue, they still have to figure out a way to register Rashford before the start of the season. Wojciech Szczesny and Gerard Martin are also in limbo.

Barca must resolve the ongoing crisis before the transfer window closes, or the affected players will be forced to watch from the sidelines at least until January.

The Blaugranas are confident that the situation will be resolved soon, with the club expecting a windfall.

Barca sold future income from Camp Nou’s executive boxes for €100m last December, but La Liga cannot count it towards their salary limit until an auditor approves it.

Club officials are hoping to get the green light in the coming days.
