LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The City of Lincoln is proposing a nearly $14 million bond issue to improve stormwater drainage.

On Tuesday, Lincoln Transportation and Utilities Director Liz Elliott shared some details of the plan with Channel 8.

“This is such a benefit to the community,” Elliott said. “We believe the public should be involved.”

The bond issue includes projects at areas prone to flooding, including 48th Street under the Cornhusker Highway overpass.

Three vehicles got stuck there during flash flooding earlier this month.

If the bonds are approved, stormwater drainage projects would also be undertaken at 10th Street and Park Avenue, 11th Street and Harrison Avenue, and 63rd Street and Aylesworth Avenue.

A total of 20 projects are included in the bond issue, included stream stabilization in the Haines Branch and Salt Creek.

The Lincoln City Council must approve the bond issue before it appears on the November ballot.
